Sugar industry Process

  1. Milling and Extraction: At the processing facility, the sugar cane stalks undergo milling to extract the juice. The stalks are crushed between heavy rollers to extract the juice, which contains sugar, water, and other plant materials.
  2. Juice Purification: The extracted juice is then purified to remove impurities. This process typically involves heating the juice and adding lime to neutralize acidity and coagulate impurities, which are then removed.
  3. Evaporation and Crystallization: The purified juice is concentrated by evaporating the water content. This is usually done in multiple stages using evaporators. As the juice becomes more concentrated, sugar crystals begin to form.
  4. Centrifugation: The concentrated juice, now called "massecuite," is then passed through centrifugal machines. These machines separate the sugar crystals from the remaining liquid, known as molasses.
  5. Drying and Packaging: The separated sugar crystals are dried to remove any remaining moisture. The dried sugar crystals are then screened, graded, and packaged for distribution and sale

POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT PUMP SOLUTIONS

  • Juice Extraction: Positive displacement pumps are commonly employed to transfer the extracted sugar cane juice from the milling machines to subsequent processing steps. They can handle the thick and fibrous nature of the juice and provide a consistent flow rate.

  • Juice Filtration: In the filtration process, after the juice is extracted, where the juice is separated from solid impurities, positive displacement pumps are used to pump the juice through filters such as rotary vacuum filters or filter presses. These pumps ensure a steady flow and enable efficient separation of solids from the juice.

  • Juice Evaporation: Pumps are involved in the evaporation process, where the extracted juice is concentrated to increase the sugar content. They help in transferring the juice to evaporators, which use heat and vacuum to remove water and concentrate the juice.

  • Juice Clarification: Positive displacement pumps play a role in the juice clarification process. They assist in transferring the concentrated juice to the clarifiers, where chemical agents are added to remove impurities. The precise flow control of these pumps helps in maintaining the proper chemical dosage and ensuring effective clarification.

  • Crystallization: Pumps play a role in the crystallization process, where the concentrated juice is cooled and seeded to induce the formation of sugar crystals. They aid in transferring the cooled juice to crystallizers, where the crystals grow and develop.

  • Molasses Handling: Molasses is a by-product of sugar production, and pumps are employed to handle and transport it. They assist in pumping the molasses from the centrifugal machines to storage tanks or to further processing for by-product utilization.

  • Boiler Feedwater: Sugar mills often have boilers that generate steam for various processes. Pumps are used to supply feedwater to these boilers, ensuring a continuous and controlled water supply for steam generation.

  • Syrup Production: In some sugar mills, syrup is produced as an intermediate product before crystallization. Positive displacement pumps are utilized to transfer the clarified juice to the syrup production section, where it is further concentrated. These pumps provide accurate flow control, which is crucial for syrup production.

  • Molasses Handling: Positive displacement pumps are used for the handling and transfer of molasses, a by-product of sugar production. They are capable of handling the high viscosity of molasses and pumping it from the centrifugal machines to storage tanks or for further processing.

  • Cane Sugar Crystallization: Positive displacement pumps are involved in the crystallization process of cane sugar production. They are used to transfer the cooled and seeded juice or syrup to crystallizers, where sugar crystals grow and develop. The precise flow control of these pumps ensures consistent crystal formation.

  • Molasses Receiving and Distribution: In some cases, molasses is used for by-product utilization or sold to other industries. Positive displacement pumps are employed to receive molasses from storage tanks and distribute it for further processing or transportation.
