The man made fibre industry, also known as the synthetic fiber fabric industry, involves the production of fibers that are not derived from natural sources like cotton or wool. Instead, man-made fibers/ are created through chemical processes using raw materials such as petroleum-based chemicals, coal, natural gas, or renewable resources like plant cellulose.
Types of Man-Made Fibers: There are various types of man-made fibers, spinning fiber including:
a. Polyester: It is the most widely used synthetic fiber and is known for its durability, wrinkle resistance, and easy-care properties. Polyester is used in clothing, home textiles, industrial applications, and packaging materials.
b. Nylon: Nylon fibers are known for their strength, elasticity, and abrasion resistance. They are used in various applications such as apparel, hosiery, automotive parts, carpets, and industrial products.
c. Acrylic: Acrylic fibers mimic the properties of wool, providing warmth and softness. They are used in sweaters, blankets, outdoor fabrics, and carpets.
d. Polypropylene: Polypropylene fibers are lightweight, moisture-resistant, and have excellent thermal properties. They are used in a wide range of applications, including apparel, automotive parts, geotextiles, and packaging materials.
e. Rayon: Rayon is a semi-synthetic fiber made from cellulose derived from wood pulp or other plant sources. It is used in apparel, home textiles, and industrial applications.
The man-made fiber industry has been working towards sustainability and reducing its environmental impact. Efforts are being made to develop eco-friendly fibers, increase recycling rates, improve energy efficiency, and reduce waste and emissions throughout the manufacturing process.
Polymer Feed and Transfer: Positive displacement pumps are used to feed polymer solutions or melt to various stages of the fiber production process. They ensure accurate and consistent delivery of polymers, which are crucial for creating the base materials used in man-made fibers.
