Working Principle of Internal Gear Pump

 

High Flow Internal Gear Pumps operate on a refined yet highly efficient principle of positive displacement, designed to deliver smooth, reliable fluid transfer across a wide range of industrial applications.

At the core of their operation is the interaction between two intermeshing gears: a larger outer gear (rotor) and a smaller inner gear (idler). These gears rotate inside a closely fitted housing, offset from one another, with a stationary crescent-shaped partition that separates the suction and discharge sides of the pump.

As the gears rotate, the space between the teeth expands on the inlet side, creating a vacuum that draws fluid into the pump. The fluid is then gently carried around the crescent-shaped cavity, trapped between the gear teeth and the pump casing. As the gears continue to rotate and re-engage on the discharge side, the fluid is smoothly pushed out, resulting in a continuous, low-pulsation flow.
